An evening of exciting Asian flavors paired with Handpicked Wines

basil Thai restaurant at Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Bangkok, is delighted to invite diners to an exciting collaboration between our own Chef Krit Prathuangsukh and special guest Chef Michael Lambie from Lucy Liu Kitchen & Bar, an eclectic Asian restaurant in Melbourne, Australia. For one night only at basil on Friday July 5, 2019, the two gifted chefs will present a special 6-course menu available with or without wine pairings.

basil’s Chef Krit is renowned for his contemporary take on Thai cuisine that remains true to authentic flavors. He studied at the prestigious California School of Culinary Arts and Le Cordon Bleu where he learnt the French technique. He has worked at Bouchon Bistro in Beverley Hills, California, owned by 3-star Michelin Chef Thomas Keller and in top kitchens in Japan. It’s in these two countries that he was introduced to the modern techniques and artistic presentation that have come to define his unique style.

Chef Michael Lambie is known as a culinary trailblazer. He began his apprenticeship at the age of 15 at Claridge’s Hotel in London before joining the two Michelin star Restaurant Konigshof in Munich. Returning to the UK, he worked alongside the inimitable Michel Roux at the three Michelin star Waterside Inn in Berkshire. He also worked as Head Chef at the eponymous Marco Pierre White restaurant in Knightsbridge. Eventually finding his way to Melbourne, he transformed the city’s dining scene with ventures including Lamaros gastropub, The Smith, and most recently Lucy Liu, a stylish restaurant designed for lovers of Asian tastes and cool drinks served in a vibrant, fun street food environment.

At basil, the two extraordinary chefs will showcase their signature dishes with an intriguing 6-course menu designed to impress. The memorable evening will begin with pass-around canapés to enjoy with sparkling organic Prosecco NV Veneto DOC, Italy, followed by Chef Krit’s welcome kong kin len Krabi grape seaweed salad with oyster foam. Chef Michael will serve the second course of yellow fin tuna tataki with ginger wasabi dressing paired with Handpicked, Regional Selection Sauvignon Blanc, 2018, Marlborough, New Zealand. Next will be Chef Krit’s octopus and salted egg yolk espuma matched with Handpicked, Regional Selection Chardonnay, 2016, Yarra Valley, Australia. Other highlights at the unique dinner with be Chef Michael’s drunken free-range chicken with Shao Xing wine, spring onions and ginger complemented by Handpicked, Regional Selection Pinot Noir, 2015, Yarra Valley Australia, and Chef Krit’s crispy pork belly with kale and black garlic with Handpicked, Collection Shiraz 2014, Barossa Valley Australia. There will also be Chef’s Michael succulent roasted Rosedale beef short rib with rendang curry with coconut, herbs and pickles served with Handpicked, Signature One Cabernet Sauvignon 2010, Coonawara, Australia, followed by Chef Krit’s finale of pumpkin dumpling in coconut charcoal sauce and crispy salted egg sponge.
