On Friday 26th October 2018, The St. Regis Bangkok presents a celebration of Californian wine from the Robert Mondavi Private Selection, perfectly paired with contemporary cuisine by Christopher Miller, at Decanter, from 6:30pm.

The St. Regis Bangkok presents an exclusive six-course Californian wine dinner, at Decanter, on the hotel’s 12th floor, from 6:30pm, on Friday 26th October 2018. This exclusive wine dinner event will perfectly pair five of the fine vintages from the Robert Mondavi Private Selection, with the haute cuisine artistry of Christopher Miller, Executive Chef of The St. Regis Bangkok.

Founded in 1966, the Robert Mondavi Winery pioneered California’s wine industry, and has led the way with innovations in winemaking and winegrowing, to create world-class vintages. Celebrating the founder’s early passion for the central coast of California, the Robert Mondavi Private Selection was established, in the Napa Valley wine country, in 1994. Robert Mondavi Private Selection wines are well-balanced, sophisticated and approachable, showcasing the high quality and diversity of the region’s grapes. The soil of the central coast of California allows for wines that exude a fresh fruit character and distinctively bright acidity, unique to the region.

At Decanter, this month, guests can expect an enlightening evening of fine 2016 Californian wines, including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel, from the Robert Mondavi Private Selection.

The exclusive evening commences with a Sauvignon Blanc, offering aromas of freshly cut grass and citrus fruits with steely mineral notes, while additional flavors of lemongrass, zest and tropical fruits complement the nose. This selection inspired the first course of Hokkaido scallop carpaccio, with green apple, lemon oil and cress.

Blue crab cakes with celeriac remoulade are paired with a Chardonnay, which is rich and creamy with a balanced acidity and finish. The wine proposes flavors of baked apples, poached pears, pineapple, lime with baking spices, and toasty oak.

The third course sees spiced duck consommé with foie gras cappalletti, accompanied by a versatile Pinot Noir. With a medium body and soft tannins, aromas of ripe, red cherries and violets with hints of Asian spice, sweet tobacco, and vanilla bean are followed by flavors of sweet cherries and strawberries.

The Cabernet Sauvignon provided inspiration for a dish of seared anchovy-studded tuna, with garlic potato purée and red wine bone marrow sauce. Medium bodied with soft, ripe tannins and a long finish, this wine opens with aromas of ripe black cherries, blackberries and cassis, with hints of cigar box, black pepper, vanilla, toasty oak, and French roast coffee, with more flavors to experience.

For the fifth course, guests must choose between the seared beef tenderloin, with braised witlof, wild mushrooms and potato gnocchi, or the crispy pork belly, with cauliflower purée, green peas and star anise jus. Ideally suited to either, the Zinfandel reveals aromas of ripe, brambly boysenberry, with hints of rhubarb pie, cedar, caramel and sweet toasty oak.

To end the evening of Chef Christopher Miller’s creations on a sweet note, guests can delight in a poached pear and raspberry trifle, matched with a Southern Comfort liqueur.
