From June through July, Orchid Cafe is adding a special menu exclusively into their Weekend Grand Seafood Dinner (Fri-Sun seafood buffet dinner) to introduce new and exciting flavours from South America.

The creative mind behind this special authentic South American menu is Chef Gaetano, Executive Chef of Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, A Luxury Collection. The menu is a curation of some of the most renowned and greatly loved dishes from countries all across Latin America. Having had the opportunity to work in Brazil, Chef Gaetano honed his Latin American cooking skills and gained knowledge of ingredients and cooking methods of South American cuisine.

The Special Menu proudly presented by Chef Gaetano is as follows:

Chile, Spicy grilled corn salad

Grilled corn salad. A dish from Chile – a sweet and sour combination with a hint of spice. This is a staple dish in South American cuisine.

Peru, Quinoa and avocado salad

The star of this salad is the superfood Quinoa and Avocado. The salad hails from Peru provides a variety of textures as the Quinoa is chewy and almost-crunchy like while the avocado is soft, thick and creamy.

Peru, Scallop ceviche

Next we have the Scallop ceviche, which is considered a national symbol in Peru cuisine. It is widely popular along the coastal areas and cities of South America. This dish is features succulent scallop, tangy from the lemon and a kick of spiciness from sliced chilli.

Brazil, feijoada, black beans soup with Manila clams

Feijoada is a Brazilian dish comes from the name feijão which means ‘beans’ in the Portuguese language. The dish itself is essentially bean stew mixed with beef chunks and a variety of sauces that produces a savoury thick broth that is slightly salty but heavy with bean aroma.

Brazil, esfiha

Esfiha is a beef pastry, shaped almost like a garee puff (curry puff). This dish was first brought into South America by refugees from Eastern Europe. It has since become a popular and well loved dish by the the local South Americans. The skin of the pastry is a think layer of pie , inside is sweet and savoury minced beef stew. We recommend to have the Esfiha while it is hot to fully enjoy this dish and all it has to offer.

Brazil, Chorizo sausage & Roasted Pork Ribs

Served with 3 different Latin American sauces: Salsa Criolla, Red Chimichurri Sauce and Piri Piri Sauce is the Chiorizo sausage and Roasted Pork Ribs.

Chile, River prawns with piri piri sauce

Grilled River Prawns done in Chilean style, served with piri piri sauce. Piri Piri sauce originated from portuguese. Featuring a sour a spicy combination that brings out the sweet freshness of river prawns.

Mexico, Churros fritter

If you are into sweets, you will love the churros fritter, originating from Spain. Dough, deep fried till it’s crisp brown and then sprinkled with icing and cinnamon sugar. It is also usually served with whipped cream and a chocolate sauce.
