Bangkok, March – basil, the awarding-winning Thai restaurant at Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Bangkok, Chef Kesinee invites diners on a culinary journey of southern Thailand.

The food in the south of Thailand is influenced by the Muslim culture, while in Phuket Town and other main commercial centers, Thai-Chinese cuisine is more common. The region’s bountiful and the varied catch of seafood also plays a starring role in the vibrant local dishes.

Throughout March, diners can enjoy a choice of 3 or 4-course set menus of authentic local dishes. Appetizers include the goong tod, deep-fried turmeric marinated prawns, and yam sapparod gai cheek, Phuket-style shredded chicken and pineapple salad. There is also pla tom khamin, a fragrant spicy soup with snapper, turmeric and southern Thai herbs, and main dishes of pad sator, stir-fried petai beans with chili and a choice of pork, chicken or prawns, and gaeng khua neau yang, grilled rib eye in coconut curry. Your taste of southern Thailand ends with the classic dessert, khao niow mamuang, mango and sticky rice.

basil also offers a daily changing lunchtime curry buffet which includes a choice of appetizers, noodle dishes, main curries, and desserts. Highlights include grathong thong je, Thai herb marinated vegetables in crispy pastry shells, guay tiew noodles served with a choice of fish or meatballs, spring onion, bean sprout, morning glory, and coriandersalt-baked Norwegian salmon with Thai chili and lime sauce, gaeng kiew wan neau, green curry with beef, eggplant and basil, gaeng karee moo, yellow curry with pork and potatoes, as well as sautéed mixed vegetables. There’s also a choice of desserts including tub tim grob, water chestnut dumplings in chilled coconut syrup.

The curry buffet is THB 690++ including coffee or tea.
